Some appliance problems can wait, others cannot. Learn to recognize the five warning signs that mean your Viking needs professional attention right away.
Sign 1: You Smell Gas When the Appliance Is Off
This is the most critical warning sign. If you smell gas when your Viking range, oven, or cooktop is turned off, leave the house immediately and call your gas company. Once they have confirmed it is safe, call us to inspect the appliance. A gas leak is never something to ignore or try to fix yourself.
Sign 2: Sparking or Electrical Arcing
Seeing sparks from your appliance when it is in use, especially from areas that should not be sparking, is a sign of an electrical problem. Turn off the appliance at the breaker and call for service. Electrical issues can cause fires if left unaddressed.
Sign 3: Burning Smell That Is Not Food
A burning plastic or rubber smell coming from your Viking appliance usually means a component is overheating or melting. This could be wiring insulation, a motor, or another internal part. Turn the appliance off and call us before using it again.
Sign 4: Water Actively Leaking
A small amount of condensation can be normal, but active water leaking from your refrigerator, dishwasher, or ice maker needs quick attention. Water damage to floors, cabinets, and subflooring can get expensive fast. Turn off the water supply if possible and call for service.
Sign 5: Your Refrigerator Suddenly Stops Cooling
When your Viking fridge goes from cold to room temperature, your food is at risk. You have about four hours before refrigerated food becomes unsafe. Try adjusting the thermostat and check if the fans are running. If nothing helps, call us for emergency service to protect your food and the appliance.
